Core i7-920 vs A8-9600 benchmarks

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i7-920 performs better than the A8-9600. Despite this, the A8-9600 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

When comparing these CPUs we notice that they have the same number of cores but the Core i7-920 has more threads. With our hardware info, we find that the A8-9600 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i7-920. Also, the A8-9600 has a slightly higher turbo speed. The A8-9600 outputs less heat than Core i7-920 thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Core i7-920 has significantly more L2 cache than the A8-9600

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i7-920 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
