Core i7-8705G vs Ryzen 3 PRO 2200G benchmarks
According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Ryzen 3 PRO 2200G is faster than the Core i7-8705G. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i7-8705G in all gaming tests too.
When comparing these CPUs we notice that they have the same number of cores but the Core i7-8705G has more threads. Our comparison shows that the Ryzen 3 PRO 2200G has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Core i7-8705G. Despite this, the Core i7-8705G has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 3 PRO 2200G has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i7-8705G. Despite this, the Core i7-8705G has significantly more L3 cache compared to the Ryzen 3 PRO 2200G.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i7-8705G has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
