Core i7-8700K vs Ryzen 7 6800HS benchmarks
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i7-8700K performs better than the Ryzen 7 6800HS. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 7 6800HS in all gaming tests too.
In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Ryzen 7 6800HS has slightly more cores than the Core i7-8700K. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 6800HS has 8 cores compared to 6 cores found in the Core i7-8700K. It also has more threads than the Core i7-8700K. Our comparison shows that the Core i7-8700K has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Ryzen 7 6800HS. Furthermore, both these CPUs have identical turbo speeds. The Ryzen 7 6800HS outputs less heat than Core i7-8700K thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Ryzen 7 6800HS has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i7-8700K. The Ryzen 7 6800HS also has slightly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i7-8700K has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
