Core i7-8700K vs Ryzen 5 PRO 4650G comparison

In our benchmarks, the Ryzen 5 PRO 4650G beats the Core i7-8700K in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i7-8700K in all gaming tests too.

When comparing these CPUs we notice that they have the same number of cores and the same number of threads. Our comparison shows that the Ryzen 5 PRO 4650G has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Core i7-8700K. Despite this, the Core i7-8700K has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Ryzen 5 PRO 4650G outputs less heat than Core i7-8700K thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Ryzen 5 PRO 4650G has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i7-8700K. Despite this, the Core i7-8700K has significantly more L3 cache compared to the Ryzen 5 PRO 4650G.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i7-8700K has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
