Core i7-8700 vs Ryzen 5 5500GT benchmarks
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i7-8700 performs better than the Ryzen 5 5500GT. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 5 5500GT in all gaming tests too.
With info from our database, we find that the Core i7-8700 has significantly more cores with 6 cores whereas the Ryzen 5 5500GT has 3 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 5 5500GT. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 5 5500GT has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i7-8700. Despite this, the Core i7-8700 has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The info from our database shows that the Ryzen 5 5500GT has more L2 cache than the Core i7-8700. The Ryzen 5 5500GT also has slightly more L3 cache.
Modern CPUs generally have more logical cores than physical cores, this means that each core is split into multiple virtual cores, improving efficiency for parallel workloads. Indeed, the Core i7-8700 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
