Core i7-8700 vs FX-8120 specs and performance
In our benchmarks, the Core i7-8700 beats the FX-8120 in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the FX-8120 in all gaming tests too.
With info from our database, we find that the Core i7-8700 has significantly more cores with 6 cores whereas the FX-8120 has 4 cores. It also has more threads than the FX-8120. Our comparison shows that the Core i7-8700 has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the FX-8120. A Core i7-8700 CPU outputs less heat than a FX-8120 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the FX-8120 has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i7-8700. Despite this, the Core i7-8700 has significantly more L3 cache compared to the FX-8120.
Modern CPUs generally have more logical cores than physical cores, this means that each core is split into multiple virtual cores, improving efficiency for parallel workloads. Indeed, the Core i7-8700 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
