Core i7-8700 vs Core i7-9700K specs and performance

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i7-9700K performs better than the Core i7-8700. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i7-8700 in all gaming tests too.

With info from our database, we find that the Core i7-9700K has slightly more cores with 8 cores whereas the Core i7-8700 has 6 cores. Despite this, the Core i7-8700 has more threads than the Core i7-9700K. Our comparison shows that the Core i7-9700K has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Core i7-8700. Also, the Core i7-9700K has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i7-8700 CPU outputs less heat than a Core i7-9700K CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Core i7-9700K has slightly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i7-8700. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.

The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. Indeed, the Core i7-8700 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
