Core i7-8700 vs Core i5-12500T benchmarks
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i7-8700 performs better than the Core i5-12500T. Despite this, the Core i5-12500T has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
Our spec comparison shows that they have an identical amount of cores and the same number of threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i7-8700 has a significantly higher clock speed than the Core i5-12500T. Also, the Core i7-8700 has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Core i5-12500T outputs less heat than Core i7-8700 thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Core i5-12500T has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i7-8700. The Core i5-12500T also has significantly more L3 cache.
Modern CPUs generally have more logical cores than physical cores, this means that each core is split into multiple virtual cores, improving efficiency for parallel workloads. Indeed, the Core i7-8700 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
