Core i7-8665U vs Xeon E3-1220 v3 comparison
According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Core i7-8665U is faster than the Xeon E3-1220 v3. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Xeon E3-1220 v3 in all gaming tests too.
When comparing these CPUs we notice that they have the same number of cores but the Core i7-8665U has more threads. Our comparison shows that the Xeon E3-1220 v3 has a significantly higher clock speed compared to the Core i7-8665U. Despite this, the Core i7-8665U has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i7-8665U CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon E3-1220 v3 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i7-8665U has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
