Core i7-8550U vs FX-9590 specs and performance

In our benchmarks, the FX-9590 beats the Core i7-8550U in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i7-8550U in all gaming tests too.

Our spec comparison shows that they have an identical amount of cores and the same number of threads. With our hardware info, we find that the FX-9590 has a significantly higher clock speed than the Core i7-8550U. A Core i7-8550U CPU outputs less heat than a FX-9590 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the FX-9590 has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i7-8550U. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.

Modern CPUs generally have more logical cores than physical cores, this means that each core is split into multiple virtual cores, improving efficiency for parallel workloads. Indeed, the Core i7-8550U has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
