Core i7-8500Y vs Xeon W3520 benchmarks
According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Core i7-8500Y is faster than the Xeon W3520. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Xeon W3520 in all gaming tests too.
In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Xeon W3520 has significantly more cores than the Core i7-8500Y. Indeed, the Xeon W3520 has 4 cores compared to 2 cores found in the Core i7-8500Y. But they both have the same number of threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Xeon W3520 has a significantly higher clock speed than the Core i7-8500Y. Despite this, the Core i7-8500Y has a significantly higher turbo speed. A Core i7-8500Y CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon W3520 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
Modern CPUs generally have more logical cores than physical cores, this means that each core is split into multiple virtual cores, improving efficiency for parallel workloads. Indeed, the Core i7-8500Y has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
