Core i7-8086K vs Core i5-1245U comparison
According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Core i7-8086K is faster than the Core i5-1245U. Despite this, the Core i5-1245U has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Core i5-1245U has significantly more cores with 10 cores compared to the Core i7-8086K that has 6 cores. But they both have the same number of threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i7-8086K has a significantly higher clock speed than the Core i5-1245U. The info from our database shows that the Core i5-1245U has more L2 cache than the Core i7-8086K. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i7-8086K has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
