Core i7-6850K vs Xeon E5-2687W benchmarks
According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Xeon E5-2687W is faster than the Core i7-6850K. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i7-6850K in all gaming tests too.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Xeon E5-2687W has slightly more cores with 8 cores compared to the Core i7-6850K that has 6 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i7-6850K. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the Core i7-6850K has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Xeon E5-2687W. In addition, both chips have the same turbo speed. A Core i7-6850K CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon E5-2687W CPU because of its slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Xeon E5-2687W has slightly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i7-6850K. The Xeon E5-2687W also has slightly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i7-6850K has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
