Core i7-6850K vs Ryzen 5 240 benchmarks

In our benchmarks, the Core i7-6850K beats the Ryzen 5 240 in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 5 240 in all gaming tests too.

When comparing these CPUs we notice that they have the same number of cores and the same number of threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 5 240 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i7-6850K. Also, the Ryzen 5 240 has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Ryzen 5 240 outputs less heat than Core i7-6850K thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 5 240 has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i7-6850K. The Ryzen 5 240 also has slightly more L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i7-6850K has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
