Core i7-6700K vs Core i7-7700 specs and performance

In our benchmarks, the Core i7-6700K beats the Core i7-7700 in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i7-7700 in all gaming tests too.

Our spec comparison shows that they have an identical amount of cores and the same number of threads. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the Core i7-6700K has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Core i7-7700. In addition, both chips have the same turbo speed. The Core i7-7700 outputs less heat than Core i7-6700K thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, both these CPUs have the same amount of L2 cache and L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i7-6700K has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
