Core i7-4900MQ vs Xeon X5650 benchmarks

According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Xeon X5650 is faster than the Core i7-4900MQ. Despite this, the Core i7-4900MQ has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

With info from our database, we find that the Xeon X5650 has significantly more cores with 6 cores whereas the Core i7-4900MQ has 4 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i7-4900MQ. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i7-4900MQ has a slightly higher clock speed than the Xeon X5650. Also, the Core i7-4900MQ has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i7-4900MQ CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon X5650 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The info from our database shows that the Xeon X5650 has more L2 cache than the Core i7-4900MQ. The Xeon X5650 also has significantly more L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i7-4900MQ has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
