Core i7-4900MQ vs Athlon 3000G benchmarks

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Athlon 3000G performs better than the Core i7-4900MQ. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i7-4900MQ in all gaming tests too.

In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Core i7-4900MQ has significantly more cores than the Athlon 3000G. Indeed, the Core i7-4900MQ has 4 cores compared to 2 cores found in the Athlon 3000G. It also has more threads than the Athlon 3000G. With our hardware info, we find that the Athlon 3000G has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i7-4900MQ. The Athlon 3000G outputs less heat than Core i7-4900MQ thanks to a slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. When comparing cache sizes, these CPUs have an identical amount of L2 cache. The Core i7-4900MQ also has significantly more L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i7-4900MQ has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
