Core i7-4790 vs Xeon X5675 specs and performance

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Xeon X5675 performs better than the Core i7-4790. Despite this, the Core i7-4790 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

With info from our database, we find that the Xeon X5675 has significantly more cores with 6 cores whereas the Core i7-4790 has 4 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i7-4790. Our comparison shows that the Core i7-4790 has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Xeon X5675. Also, the Core i7-4790 has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i7-4790 CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon X5675 CPU because of its slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Xeon X5675 has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i7-4790. The Xeon X5675 also has significantly more L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i7-4790 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
