Core i7-4790 vs Xeon W3680 benchmarks
According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Xeon W3680 is faster than the Core i7-4790. Despite this, the Core i7-4790 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Xeon W3680 has significantly more cores with 6 cores compared to the Core i7-4790 that has 4 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i7-4790. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i7-4790 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Xeon W3680. Also, the Core i7-4790 has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i7-4790 CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon W3680 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Xeon W3680 has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i7-4790
Modern CPUs generally have more logical cores than physical cores, this means that each core is split into multiple virtual cores, improving efficiency for parallel workloads. Indeed, the Core i7-4790 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
