Core i7-4720HQ vs Xeon X5687 comparison

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Xeon X5687 performs better than the Core i7-4720HQ. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i7-4720HQ in all gaming tests too.

Info from our database shows that they both have the same core count but the Core i7-4720HQ has more threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Xeon X5687 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i7-4720HQ. Also, the Xeon X5687 has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i7-4720HQ CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon X5687 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The data shows that both these CPUs have same sized L2 caches. The Xeon X5687 also has significantly more L3 cache.

The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. Indeed, the Core i7-4720HQ has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
