Core i7-4712MQ vs Phenom II X4 965 specs and performance

According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Phenom II X4 965 is faster than the Core i7-4712MQ. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i7-4712MQ in all gaming tests too.

When comparing these CPUs we notice that they have the same number of cores but the Core i7-4712MQ has more threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Phenom II X4 965 has a significantly higher clock speed than the Core i7-4712MQ. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Phenom II X4 965 has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i7-4712MQ. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i7-4712MQ has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
