Core i7-14700K vs Ryzen 7 7800X3D comparison
In our benchmarks, the Core i7-14700K beats the Ryzen 7 7800X3D in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 7 7800X3D in all gaming tests too.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Core i7-14700K has significantly more cores with 20 cores compared to the Ryzen 7 7800X3D that has 8 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. Our comparison shows that the Ryzen 7 7800X3D has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Core i7-14700K. The info from our database shows that the Core i7-14700K has more L2 cache than the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. Despite this, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D has significantly more L3 cache compared to the Core i7-14700K.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i7-14700K has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
Most other gaming benchmarks indicate the AMD 7800X3D handily beats even i9 CPUs in most games, especially so in flight simulators due to it's greater cache. Granted, it's at the expense of productivity tasks, where the Intel CPUs shine, but I would have expected the gaming benchmarks to tell a different story.
