According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Ryzen 7 5700X3D is faster than the Core i7-12800HX. Despite this, the Core i7-12800HX has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

With info from our database, we find that the Core i7-12800HX has significantly more cores with 16 cores whereas the Ryzen 7 5700X3D has 8 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 7 5700X3D. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 7 5700X3D has a significantly higher clock speed than the Core i7-12800HX. Despite this, the Core i7-12800HX has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i7-12800HX CPU outputs less heat than a Ryzen 7 5700X3D CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, both these CPUs have the same amount of L2 cache. The Ryzen 7 5700X3D also has significantly more L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i7-12800HX has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
