Core i7-12700 vs Core i9-14900HX specs and performance
In our benchmarks, the Core i9-14900HX beats the Core i7-12700 in overall performance. Despite this, the Core i7-12700 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Core i9-14900HX has significantly more cores with 24 cores compared to the Core i7-12700 that has 12 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i7-12700. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i7-12700 has a significantly higher clock speed than the Core i9-14900HX. Despite this, the Core i9-14900HX has a slightly higher turbo speed.
The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. Indeed, the Core i7-12700 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
