Core i7-11700 vs Core i5-12400F benchmarks
According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Core i7-11700 is faster than the Core i5-12400F. Despite this, the Core i5-12400F has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Core i7-11700 has slightly more cores than the Core i5-12400F. Indeed, the Core i7-11700 has 8 cores compared to 6 cores found in the Core i5-12400F. It also has more threads than the Core i5-12400F. Both the Core i7-11700 and Core i5-12400F have the same clock speed. Despite this, the Core i7-11700 has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Core i5-12400F outputs less heat than Core i7-11700 thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i7-11700 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
