Core i5-9400F vs Xeon E5-2697A v4 specs and performance
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Xeon E5-2697A v4 performs better than the Core i5-9400F. Despite this, the Core i5-9400F has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
With info from our database, we find that the Xeon E5-2697A v4 has significantly more cores with 16 cores whereas the Core i5-9400F has 6 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i5-9400F. Our comparison shows that the Core i5-9400F has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Xeon E5-2697A v4. Also, the Core i5-9400F has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i5-9400F CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon E5-2697A v4 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Xeon E5-2697A v4 has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i5-9400F. The Xeon E5-2697A v4 also has significantly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Core i5-9400F has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
