Core i5-9400F vs Ryzen 3 5425U specs and performance
In our benchmarks, the Core i5-9400F beats the Ryzen 3 5425U in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 3 5425U in all gaming tests too.
In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Core i5-9400F has significantly more cores than the Ryzen 3 5425U. Indeed, the Core i5-9400F has 6 cores compared to 4 cores found in the Ryzen 3 5425U. Despite this, the Ryzen 3 5425U has more threads than the Core i5-9400F. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the Core i5-9400F has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Ryzen 3 5425U. Furthermore, both these CPUs have identical turbo speeds. The Ryzen 3 5425U outputs less heat than Core i5-9400F thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 3 5425U has slightly more L2 cache than the Core i5-9400F. Despite this, the Core i5-9400F has slightly more L3 cache compared to the Ryzen 3 5425U.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Core i5-9400F has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
