Core i5-9400 vs Xeon X5680 specs and performance

In our benchmarks, the Xeon X5680 beats the Core i5-9400 in overall performance. Despite this, the Core i5-9400 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

When comparing these CPUs we notice that they have the same number of cores but the Xeon X5680 has more threads. Our comparison shows that the Xeon X5680 has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Core i5-9400. Despite this, the Core i5-9400 has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i5-9400 CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon X5680 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The info from our database shows that the Core i5-9400 has more L2 cache than the Xeon X5680. The Core i5-9400 also has significantly more L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Core i5-9400 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
