Core i5-9400 vs Xeon E5-2690 specs and performance
According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Xeon E5-2690 is faster than the Core i5-9400. Despite this, the Core i5-9400 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Xeon E5-2690 has slightly more cores than the Core i5-9400. Indeed, the Xeon E5-2690 has 8 cores compared to 6 cores found in the Core i5-9400. It also has more threads than the Core i5-9400. Both the Core i5-9400 and Xeon E5-2690 have the same clock speed. Despite this, the Core i5-9400 has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i5-9400 CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon E5-2690 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. For instance, the Core i5-9400 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
