Core i5-9400 vs Xeon E5-2683 v3 specs and performance
In our benchmarks, the Xeon E5-2683 v3 beats the Core i5-9400 in overall performance. Despite this, the Core i5-9400 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Xeon E5-2683 v3 has significantly more cores than the Core i5-9400. Indeed, the Xeon E5-2683 v3 has 14 cores compared to 6 cores found in the Core i5-9400. It also has more threads than the Core i5-9400. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i5-9400 has a significantly higher clock speed than the Xeon E5-2683 v3. Also, the Core i5-9400 has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i5-9400 CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon E5-2683 v3 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
Modern CPUs generally have more logical cores than physical cores, this means that each core is split into multiple virtual cores, improving efficiency for parallel workloads. For instance, the Core i5-9400 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
