Core i5-8600 vs Core i7-4790 comparison

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i7-4790 performs better than the Core i5-8600. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i5-8600 in all gaming tests too.

In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Core i5-8600 has significantly more cores than the Core i7-4790. Indeed, the Core i5-8600 has 6 cores compared to 4 cores found in the Core i7-4790. Despite this, the Core i7-4790 has more threads than the Core i5-8600. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i7-4790 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i5-8600. Despite this, the Core i5-8600 has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i5-8600 CPU outputs less heat than a Core i7-4790 CPU because of its slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Core i5-8600 has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i7-4790. The Core i5-8600 also has slightly more L3 cache.

The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. For instance, the Core i5-8600 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
