Core i5-8500T vs Xeon E5-2687W comparison
In our benchmarks, the Xeon E5-2687W beats the Core i5-8500T in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i5-8500T in all gaming tests too.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Xeon E5-2687W has slightly more cores with 8 cores compared to the Core i5-8500T that has 6 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i5-8500T. With our hardware info, we find that the Xeon E5-2687W has a significantly higher clock speed than the Core i5-8500T. Also, the Xeon E5-2687W has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i5-8500T CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon E5-2687W CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Xeon E5-2687W has slightly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i5-8500T. The Xeon E5-2687W also has significantly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Core i5-8500T has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
