Core i5-8500 vs Ryzen 5 PRO 2400G comparison

When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Core i5-8500 has significantly more cores with 6 cores compared to the Ryzen 5 PRO 2400G that has 4 cores. Despite this, the Ryzen 5 PRO 2400G has more threads than the Core i5-8500. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 5 PRO 2400G has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i5-8500. Despite this, the Core i5-8500 has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The info from our database shows that the Ryzen 5 PRO 2400G has more L2 cache than the Core i5-8500. Despite this, the Core i5-8500 has significantly more L3 cache compared to the Ryzen 5 PRO 2400G.

This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Core i5-8500 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
