Core i5-8500 vs Ryzen 5 5500 comparison
In our benchmarks, the Ryzen 5 5500 beats the Core i5-8500 in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i5-8500 in all gaming tests too.
Our spec comparison shows that they have an identical amount of cores but the Ryzen 5 5500 has more threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 5 5500 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i5-8500. Also, the Ryzen 5 5500 has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Ryzen 5 5500 has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i5-8500. The Ryzen 5 5500 also has significantly more L3 cache.
The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. For instance, the Core i5-8500 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
