Core i5-8500 vs Ryzen 5 240 benchmarks
According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Ryzen 5 240 is faster than the Core i5-8500. Despite this, the Core i5-8500 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
Info from our database shows that they both have the same core count but the Ryzen 5 240 has more threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 5 240 has a significantly higher clock speed than the Core i5-8500. Also, the Ryzen 5 240 has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Ryzen 5 240 outputs less heat than Core i5-8500 thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Ryzen 5 240 has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i5-8500. The Ryzen 5 240 also has significantly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Core i5-8500 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
