Core i5-8500 vs FX-6100 benchmarks

In our benchmarks, the Core i5-8500 beats the FX-6100 in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the FX-6100 in all gaming tests too.

With info from our database, we find that the Core i5-8500 has significantly more cores with 6 cores whereas the FX-6100 has 3 cores. But they both have the same number of threads. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the FX-6100 has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Core i5-8500. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the FX-6100 has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i5-8500. Despite this, the Core i5-8500 has slightly more L3 cache compared to the FX-6100.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Core i5-8500 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
