Core i5-8500 vs Core i7-11700 comparison

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i7-11700 performs better than the Core i5-8500. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i5-8500 in all gaming tests too.

With info from our database, we find that the Core i7-11700 has slightly more cores with 8 cores whereas the Core i5-8500 has 6 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i5-8500. Our comparison shows that the Core i5-8500 has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Core i7-11700. Despite this, the Core i7-11700 has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i5-8500 CPU outputs less heat than a Core i7-11700 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Core i7-11700 has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i5-8500. The Core i7-11700 also has significantly more L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones.
