Core i5-8500 vs Core i5-4460 specs and performance
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i5-8500 performs better than the Core i5-4460. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i5-4460 in all gaming tests too.
With info from our database, we find that the Core i5-8500 has significantly more cores with 6 cores whereas the Core i5-4460 has 4 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i5-4460. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the Core i5-4460 has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Core i5-8500. Despite this, the Core i5-8500 has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i5-8500 CPU outputs less heat than a Core i5-4460 CPU because of its slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Core i5-8500 has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i5-4460. The Core i5-8500 also has significantly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Core i5-8500 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
