Core i5-8400T vs Xeon E5-2640 comparison
In our benchmarks, the Xeon E5-2640 beats the Core i5-8400T in overall performance. Despite this, the Core i5-8400T has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
When comparing these CPUs we notice that they have the same number of cores but the Xeon E5-2640 has more threads. Our comparison shows that the Xeon E5-2640 has a significantly higher clock speed compared to the Core i5-8400T. Despite this, the Core i5-8400T has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i5-8400T CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon E5-2640 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The data shows that both these CPUs have same sized L2 caches. The Xeon E5-2640 also has significantly more L3 cache.
The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. For instance, the Core i5-8400T has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
