Core i5-8400T vs Core i7-8705G specs and performance
According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Core i5-8400T is faster than the Core i7-8705G. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i7-8705G in all gaming tests too.
In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Core i5-8400T has significantly more cores than the Core i7-8705G. Indeed, the Core i5-8400T has 6 cores compared to 4 cores found in the Core i7-8705G. Despite this, the Core i7-8705G has more threads than the Core i5-8400T. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the Core i7-8705G has a significantly higher clock speed compared to the Core i5-8400T. Also, the Core i7-8705G has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i5-8400T CPU outputs less heat than a Core i7-8705G CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Core i5-8400T has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i7-8705G. The Core i5-8400T also has slightly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Core i5-8400T has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
