Core i5-8400T vs Core i7-8700T specs and performance

In our benchmarks, the Core i7-8700T beats the Core i5-8400T in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i5-8400T in all gaming tests too.

Info from our database shows that they both have the same core count but the Core i7-8700T has more threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i7-8700T has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i5-8400T. Also, the Core i7-8700T has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. When comparing cache sizes, these CPUs have an identical amount of L2 cache. The Core i7-8700T also has slightly more L3 cache.

The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. For instance, the Core i5-8400T has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
