Core i5-8400 vs Ryzen 5 7520U benchmarks
According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Core i5-8400 is faster than the Ryzen 5 7520U. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 5 7520U in all gaming tests too.
With info from our database, we find that the Core i5-8400 has significantly more cores with 6 cores whereas the Ryzen 5 7520U has 4 cores. Despite this, the Ryzen 5 7520U has more threads than the Core i5-8400. Our comparison shows that the Ryzen 5 7520U has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Core i5-8400. Also, the Ryzen 5 7520U has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Ryzen 5 7520U outputs less heat than Core i5-8400 thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Ryzen 5 7520U has slightly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i5-8400. Despite this, the Core i5-8400 has significantly more L3 cache compared to the Ryzen 5 7520U.
The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. For instance, the Core i5-8400 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
