Core i5-8400 vs Core i7-6850K comparison

According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Core i5-8400 is faster than the Core i7-6850K. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i7-6850K in all gaming tests too.

Info from our database shows that they both have the same core count but the Core i7-6850K has more threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i7-6850K has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i5-8400. Despite this, the Core i5-8400 has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i5-8400 CPU outputs less heat than a Core i7-6850K CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, both these CPUs have the same amount of L2 cache. The Core i7-6850K also has significantly more L3 cache.

Modern CPUs generally have more logical cores than physical cores, this means that each core is split into multiple virtual cores, improving efficiency for parallel workloads. For instance, the Core i5-8400 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
