Core i5-8300H vs Xeon E3-1240 V2 specs and performance

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i5-8300H performs better than the Xeon E3-1240 V2. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Xeon E3-1240 V2 in all gaming tests too.

When comparing these CPUs we notice that they have the same number of cores and the same number of threads. Our comparison shows that the Xeon E3-1240 V2 has a significantly higher clock speed compared to the Core i5-8300H. In terms of cache, both these CPUs have the same amount of L2 cache. The Core i5-8300H also has significantly more L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i5-8300H has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
