Core i5-8259U vs FX-8150 benchmarks

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the FX-8150 performs better than the Core i5-8259U. Despite this, the Core i5-8259U has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

Our spec comparison shows that they have an identical amount of cores and the same number of threads. With our hardware info, we find that the FX-8150 has a significantly higher clock speed than the Core i5-8259U. A Core i5-8259U CPU outputs less heat than a FX-8150 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the FX-8150 has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i5-8259U. The FX-8150 also has slightly more L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i5-8259U has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
