Core i5-8250U vs Xeon E5-520 benchmarks
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i5-8250U performs better than the Xeon E5-520. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Xeon E5-520 in all gaming tests too.
When comparing these CPUs we notice that they have the same number of cores but the Core i5-8250U has more threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Xeon E5-520 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i5-8250U. Despite this, the Core i5-8250U has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i5-8250U CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon E5-520 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. When comparing cache sizes, these CPUs have an identical amount of L2 cache. The Xeon E5-520 also has slightly more L3 cache.
Modern CPUs generally have more logical cores than physical cores, this means that each core is split into multiple virtual cores, improving efficiency for parallel workloads. Indeed, the Core i5-8250U has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
