Core i5-8250U vs Core i3-1115G4 specs and performance
According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Core i5-8250U is faster than the Core i3-1115G4. Despite this, the Core i3-1115G4 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Core i5-8250U has significantly more cores than the Core i3-1115G4. Indeed, the Core i5-8250U has 4 cores compared to 2 cores found in the Core i3-1115G4. It also has more threads than the Core i3-1115G4. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i3-1115G4 has a significantly higher clock speed than the Core i5-8250U. Also, the Core i3-1115G4 has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i5-8250U CPU outputs less heat than a Core i3-1115G4 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Core i3-1115G4 has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i5-8250U. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Core i5-8250U has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
