Core i5-7600 vs Xeon E5-2640 comparison
In our benchmarks, the Xeon E5-2640 beats the Core i5-7600 in overall performance. Despite this, the Core i5-7600 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
With info from our database, we find that the Xeon E5-2640 has significantly more cores with 6 cores whereas the Core i5-7600 has 4 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i5-7600. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the Core i5-7600 has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Xeon E5-2640. Also, the Core i5-7600 has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Core i5-7600 CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon E5-2640 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The info from our database shows that the Xeon E5-2640 has more L2 cache than the Core i5-7600. The Xeon E5-2640 also has significantly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Core i5-7600 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
