Core i5-7500T vs Athlon Gold 7220U specs and performance
In our benchmarks, the Core i5-7500T beats the Athlon Gold 7220U in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Athlon Gold 7220U in all gaming tests too.
In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Core i5-7500T has significantly more cores than the Athlon Gold 7220U. Indeed, the Core i5-7500T has 4 cores compared to 2 cores found in the Athlon Gold 7220U. But they both have the same number of threads. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the Core i5-7500T has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Athlon Gold 7220U. Despite this, the Athlon Gold 7220U has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Athlon Gold 7220U outputs less heat than Core i5-7500T thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The data shows that both these CPUs have same sized L2 caches. The Core i5-7500T also has significantly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Core i5-7500T has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
