Core i5-7500 vs Xeon E3-1230 V2 comparison

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Xeon E3-1230 V2 performs better than the Core i5-7500. Despite this, the Core i5-7500 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

When comparing these CPUs we notice that they have the same number of cores but the Xeon E3-1230 V2 has more threads. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the Core i5-7500 has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Xeon E3-1230 V2. The data shows that both these CPUs have same sized L2 caches. The Xeon E3-1230 V2 also has slightly more L3 cache.

The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. For instance, the Core i5-7500 has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
